Here is a chart to put into your binders. As always, begin by putting the chart in the daily section. If your student is doing fine with daily review, move it to the even or odd tab. Continue to move it as appropriate. Our goal is to review enough that the student remembers, but not so much that she begins to hate her reading lessons. Too much review kills the love, so DON’T KILL THE LOVE.
Simply tell her that igh says eye (aɪ if you prefer the proper phonetic way of putting it), and then help her sound out the words. Because these are one-syllable words, they tend to be easy for the children to pick up. Remind your student that she’ll be using what she learns in the day’s reading.
Sometimes it is that simple.
