Book 3 contains the word mouse. Our students have already met the ou sound back in Bob Books Set 2. The only difference here is that there is a silent e on the end of the word. I do not teach this word as a separate rule — I just inform them that the e is silent.
There isn’t really anything new in this book, but there are a number of sounds our students may be a bit rusty at — they practiced them to the point where they ended up in the once-per-month review, but that maybe wasn’t enough? We’ll see. Cards can always be moved back toward the front if necessary.
Here are the lesson plans for this book:
Lesson One
- Review appropriate sections in the binder.
- Read: Set 4, Book 3 (“Cat and Mouse”) pp. 1-6
Lesson Two
- Review appropriate sections in the binder.
- Read: Set 4, Book 3 (“Cat and Mouse”) pp. 7-ff
Lesson Three
- Review appropriate sections in the binder.
- Read: Set 4, Book 3 (“Cat and Mouse”) pp. all
Remember: you can break up Lesson Three into two shorter readings if your student needs you to.
