We might as well be honest: there are a number of ways to say A’s name (the long-A sound). Of course, A can say its own name. But also, we have learned that ay makes the same sounds. The ea combination can also make that sound, though I don’t think we’ve taught that one yet.
Today, we learn that ey can also make the long-A sound. Just tell your student so, and then practice using the rule by reading the words on the card. Your student will master this rule in no time!
