This book has a really long word on the first page: suddenly. Do your student a favor and assume that he cannot read it; that he needs your help. Using your finger, break the word up into smaller parts to help him sound it out, and then help him put it all together. Taking this proactive approach helps build confidence when it comes to long, multi-syllabic words.
