You are about to introduce the y sound. Please, I beg of you, do not let the child say “yuh” for this sound. I did that with a more difficult student of mine once because I thought I was being nice, and the result was a child that read “yuh-es” instead of “yes”–the child didn’t even realize what the word was after sounding it out! It was terrible, so don’t do what I did. Remember: it is far easier to teach something correctly the first time than to unteach and reteach later. All of this to say that y makes a short, clipped sound.
